Born on 31st December 1965 in Omaha, Nicholas Spark was second child of his parents. The younger sister of the author passed in 2000 at the age of 33. Nicholas regards her as the inspiration for the work A Walk to Remember. Sparks moved to New Bern, North Carolina after getting married to Cathy Cote in 1989. The writing career of the author started at an early age of 19 when once his mother quoted him to write in his free time.

5. Dear John (2010)
Nicholas Sparks movies have always amused the viewers with the romantic drama sense and of course the well-set storyline. The movie is about a soldier, John, overseas who connects with his lover Savannah through letters. The literal “Dear John” comes from the letter in which Savannah tells John that they are breaking up as she has developed feelings for some other man. Events lead to the death of John’s father and John learning that Savannah got married. Tim, Savannah’s husband suffers from cancer and soon loses his fight. Tim tells John before dying that Savannah still loves him. The end shows that John is now a civilian and he hugs Savannah at a coffee shop. The movie won 5 awards in different categories and also backed a few nominations.

4. Nights in Rodanthe (2008)
Starring Richard Gere and Diana Lane, Nights in Rodanthe is an adaption of the novel by Nicholas Sparks published in 2002. Like other Nicholas Sparks movies, Night in Rodanthe also has love, romance, separation, death and of course love letters. The main protagonists are Adrienne and Paul. Both are broken from their past relationships and have anestrangedrelationship with their kids. They end up finding emotional support for each other but fate has something else in the store. They end up separating and later Paul expires. Mark, Paul’s son comes to Adrienne to thank her for giving him the father he knew as a kid. Eventually, Adrienne’s daughter also improvises the mother-daughter relation. The movie was nominated in the Best grownup story category at the AARP Movies for Grownup Awards.

3. The Notebook (2004)
Released in 2004, The Notebook is regarded as the best of Nicholas Sparks movies. The plot is adapted from the same-named novel of the writer. On opening, an elderly man is reading to a patient at a hospital from his notebook. Noah and Allie are the lovers separated by the parents of Allie. Later Noah goes to fight in World War II and Allie volunteers at a hospital where she comes across Lon and gets engaged. Noah returns from the War and restores the house he and Allie had planned to live in after marriage. Allie finds Noah and they reunite. The story then shifts to present and it is seen that the patient is Allie who is suffering from dementia and the person reading is Noah. They end up dying together in sleep at Allie’s hospital bed. The movie received mixed reviews by the critics but performed really well at the box office backing nominations and awards in some categories.

2. A Walk to Remember (2002)
The movie was based on the novel of Nicholas Sparks with the same name. Starring Shane West and Mandy Moore, the plot lies around a bad boy falling in love with a preacher’s girl during school play practice sessions. The boy (Landon) helps the girl (Jamie) fulfill her bucket wish list on their first date. The girl eventually reveals that she isn’t planning anything for future because she is suffering from terminal illness-leukemia. The boy helps the girl through her rough and painful days. In between Landin also reunites with his father. Landon and Jamie end up marrying but leukemia takes Jamie away from Landon. The boy is left all in pain and tears. Later it is shown that the boy completes his college and regularly visits Jamie at the dock and believes that she is still by his side.
Nicholas Sparks movies show the sweet and bitter side of love and romance. Nicholas has quoted that Jamie’s character is actually inspired by his younger sister who died of terminal illness. The movie received positive reviews from the critics and also backed some awards.

1. Message in a Bottle (1999)
Message n a Bottle is regarded as one of the best Nicholas Sparks movies. The writer like always left the audience in pool of tears. Warner Bros released the movie in the year 1999 starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright and Paul Newman. The plot lies around a former reporter, Theresa Osborne who discovers a mysterious love letter locked in a bottle in the sand addressed to Catherine. Theresa prints the letter and receives quite a good response. Somehow, she also tracks the writer. Eventually Garrett Blake (the writer of the letters) and Theresa get well acquainted. Later Theresa gets to know that Catherine was actually Garret’s ex who died. A series of revelations is seen. And further Garret dies without confessing his love to Theresa. The post-death revelations lead to a better ending. The movie and the stars were also nominated in few categories for the movie.
